Council seeks progress on assessment
Redland City Council has endorsed a plan to continuing pursuing progress on the Redlands Coast Regional Sport and Recreation Precinct.
The endorsement at Council’s August 2025 General Meeting noted that the precinct had experienced significant delays and increased costs due to the ongoing assessment under the Federal Government’s Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act).
Council is seeking to receive positive progress on the EPBC assessment within six months, noting there is a significant financial burden to rate payers in the delivery of environmental offsets as part of the EPBC referral and approval process.
Council has developed a targeted advocacy plan, calling on the Federal Government to expedite its assessment process and further consider local government projects creating essential community and social infrastructure.
Council also plans to form a local sporting clubs volunteer working group to communicate progress on the site, and overall sports facility planning for the city.
