Birkdale Water Main Upgrade - Makaha Drive and side streets

Redland City Council plans to commence the delivery of a water main upgrade project on Makaha Drive in Birkdale in June 2023, weather permitting.
Water mains will also be replaced on the following streets Mala Crescent, Makena Crescent, Moku Crescent, Mamala Street, Hanalle Street (partial length), Moloaa Crescent, Moana Crescent, Mahie Crescent, and Moloii Crescent.
This work will include excavation along the full length of the Makaha Drive verge between Birkdale Road and Bath Street, including road crossings at all Makaha Drive cross streets.
The works, which will be carried out under contract by NTS Group on behalf of Council, are being delivered due to the existing water main reaching the end of its useful life.
The works will be delivered between 7.00am and 6.00pm, Monday to Friday, with evening and weekend work to be conducted for critical works only. In the event evening or weekend work is required, Council will notify residents as quickly as possible.
Short-term water disruptions of up to eight hours in duration will be required on occasion to complete critical works, typically conducted on a weekday between 8.00am and 4.00pm but may be required from 9.00pm to 5.00am in certain areas. Further letters will be delivered to those affected, with a minimum of two days’ notice prior to a planned water outage.
Planned water outages are listed approximately two days in advance of the outage on Council’s website at www.redland.qld.gov.au. Please search ‘water outages’ in the search textbox located on the homepage.
During the construction period, temporary traffic lanes and road closures will be in place in the area to assist motorists to negotiate around the work site. It is possible that detours will also be in place to redirect traffic around the site. On-site traffic controllers will be able to assist residents to and from their properties during the construction phase.
The works are currently planned to be completed 6 October 2023, weather and other project constraints permitting.
