Council endorses proposed Cemetery parking amendment

Between Monday, 26 June and Sunday, 23 July 2023, Council undertook a public consultation on a proposed amendment to Subordinate Local Law No. 5 (Parking) 2015, which would introduce timed, off-street parking in the Dunwich Cemetery parking area. Council advised the community it was considering introducing a two-hour parking limit in the parking area.

Council received 32 submissions during the engagement period. However, only 30 of those were appropriately submitted.

Community feedback indicated that the suggested two-hour parking limit would not provide sufficient time for cemetery visitors, and instead, a four-hour parking limit was suggested by the respondents.

At the General Meeting on Wednesday, 16 August 2023, Council resolved to make the proposed amendment to Subordinate Local Law No. 5 (Parking) 2015. Council has also heard the community and is considering a four-hour parking limit in the Dunwich Cemetery parking area.

The installation of advisory signs at the entrance to the cemetery informing all visitors of the purpose of the cemetery was also supported during the consultation phase.

Council will introduce the new parking limits and advisory signs soon.
