Changes to Amenity and Aesthetics Policy and Guideline have commenced

The updated Amenity and Aesthetics Policy and Guideline, including the new provisions relating to secondary dwellings, commenced on 1 February 2024.

Where a proposed secondary dwelling does not comply with the probable solutions identified in Part 4 of the Amenity and Aesthetics Guideline, the application will need to be referred to Council under Schedule 9, Part 3, Division 2, Table 1 of the Planning Regulation 2017.

The Policy and Guideline are available on Council's website - Amenity and Aesthetics | Redland City Council.

As identified in the Redland City Council Adopted Infrastructure Charges Resolution (No. 3.2) 2023, an infrastructure charge will be levied for secondary dwellings that do not comply with Item 4, Probable Solution P1 of the Amenity and Aesthetics Guideline (relating to gross floor area).

The proposed planning scheme amendment to introduce these new provisions into City Plan is still being considered. Progress on this amendment will recommence following the completion of the caretaker's period for the Local Government elections.
