Panoramic coastal walk set to extend

Work on the spectacular Minjerribah Panorama Coastal Walk will continue in early October following the completion of upgrades to Mooloomba Road earlier this year.

Mayor Karen Williams said stage two of the project, which received State Government funding through the South East Queensland Community Stimulus Program, would see the walkway extended from Frenchman’s Stairs to Point Lookout Village, complete restoration of Frenchman’s Stairs, and revamped picnic areas.

“This is an exciting phase of a project that will see numerous benefits for locals and the wider Redlands Coast community, and further raise the profile of Minjerribah as a top nature tourism destination,” Cr Williams said.

“When finished, the walk experience will be hard to beat, with accessible paths and viewing platforms helping to ensure all visitors and members of this close-knit community can enjoy the fabulous views afforded by this spectacular stretch of coastline.

“Completion of the Frenchman’s Stairs restoration will also enhance entry to the beach; and the revamped stairs will serve the community for many years to come.

“While the stairs are being renewed, beachgoers can continue to access Frenchman’s Beach via Deadman’s Beach, which is the most suitable access for ensuring public safety while preserving the important environmental values of the area.”

Division 2 Councillor Peter Mitchell agreed the new walk experience would be a boon to the Minjerribah and Mulumba communities.

“Minjerribah continues to grow in popularity as a day trip and holiday destination,” Cr Mitchell said.

“Completion of this project will be a must-do for visitors seeking to enjoy all this picturesque island has to offer.

“The coastal walk experience from Snapper Street to Point Lookout Village will see visitors enjoy and support businesses in both locations, and encourage a deeper appreciation of the island.

“The sustainably designed walkway will further protect the habitats of animal and plant life and also help preserve the landscape’s values.”

Work on stage two of the Minjerribah Panorama Coastal Walk is expected to be complete in late April 2023, weather and site conditions permitting.
