Birkdale Active Pathway Upgrade
Council has made it easier for you to walk and cycle safely in Birkdale through the delivery of the Birkdale Active Pathway Upgrade project. This $1.9 million shared pathway upgrade forms part of Council's vision for improving the city's walking and cycling network as outlined in the Redlands Coast Transport Strategy 2020.
This project was jointly funded by Council and the Queensland Government and was proudly supported by the Queensland Government's Cycle Network Local Government Grants Program.
The project:
- involved extending the existing shared pathway at the Judy Holt Recreation Reserve to the Tarradarrapin Creek Wetlands in the north and Allenby Road in the south, creating a new 2km long and 2.5-3m wide pathway connection through Birkdale.
- formed part of the Queensland Government's Principal Cycle Network Plan and connect to the future Northern Greenway Active Transport Corridor.
- included a community planting day to enhance and protect the area's environmental value.
As part of the project with funding from the Federal Government's Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, Council has also renewed and expanded a section of the Judy Holt Recreation Reserve car park.
