New chapter approaches for Capalaba Library and Customer Service Centre

It is time for the Capalaba Library and Council Customer Service Centre to start checking out of their current home and checking in to their temporary new digs.

The library and service centre will continue to operate out of Capalaba Place in Noeleen Street until close of business on Friday, 1 November.

Both will reopen in Capalaba Central Shopping Centre on Monday 11 November, at the Woolworths end of the centre in the space previously occupied by Coles.

Mayor Jos Mitchell said the relocation was required for the start of a $250 million revitalisation project.

“The Capalaba Town Centre Revitalisation Project is set to transform the area behind Capalaba Central Shopping Centre into the urban heart of Capalaba,” she said.

“Works on the first stage of this project are expected to start in early 2025 and will see a new state-of-the-art library building, community and innovative arts space and a new customer service centre, as well as three levels of office space.”

Redland City Council, in partnership with subsidiary Redland Investment Corporation (RIC) and preferred development partner Shayher Group, is delivering the urban renewal of the 1.55-hectare site in Capalaba.

Division 8 Councillor Tracey Huges said that during the planned closure, Capalaba Library customers are encouraged to visit one of Council’s other libraries or consider reserving library items for collection from the 24-7 Library Lockers located outside Cleveland Library.

The Mobile Library will be located near Capalaba Place on Saturday 2 November, and then again from Monday 4 November to Saturday 9 November, returning to its usual schedule from Monday 11 November.

Customer service teams will be ready to help as usual at their locations in Cleveland and Victoria Point, during the temporary closure at Capalaba.

Closure period:

  • 2 November to 10 November inclusive
  • During this closure, all other Redlands Coast libraries and customer service centres will be open as usual.

New location operating hours:

Capalaba Library

  • Monday to Friday: 9am-5pm
  • Saturday: 9am-4pm
  • Closed on Sundays and public holidays.

Customer service centre

  • Monday to Friday: 9am-4.30pm
  • Closed weekends and public holidays.
