Consultation has concluded

Redland City Council’s (Council) local laws undergo a continual review process to provide the best outcomes for Council and the community.

At the 21 June 2023 General Meeting, Council resolved to commence the local law-making process for Subordinate Local Law No. 5 (Parking) 2015 and commence community consultation on a proposed amendment to the local law, which would introduce a two-hour parking limit at the Dunwich Cemetery parking area.

Council is seeking feedback from the North Stradbroke Island/Minjerribah community on its proposal to introduce timed parking in this area to help remove informal parking from and preserve this culturally sensitive area.

Subordinate Local Law No. 4 (Local Government Controlled Areas, Facilities and Roads) 2015 at Schedule 1, Item 4, makes it a prohibited activity to enter or remain in a local government cemetery for any purpose other than:

  1. Visiting a grave, memorial, or interment site
  2. Attending a funeral
  3. Maintaining or repairing a grave, memorial, or interment site in accordance with written authorisation of the Chief Executive Officer.

Following a safety review, the recent removal of 22 parking spaces at the One Mile ferry terminal was required to improve the safety of everyone using the ferry terminal and bus stop. The improvements have provided the bus service with safer bus access, better visibility, and more effective bus manoeuvrability. However, these changes resulted in commuters parking their vehicles all day in the parking area provided for Dunwich Cemetery visitors. Council's proposal for regulated parking at the One Mile ferry terminal is currently out for consultation. For more information on this project, please click here.

The engagement period commenced on 26 June 2023 and concluded on 23 July 2023.
