Local Law amendments for safe use of kayak and canoe pontoons

Council is amending its Local Laws to regulate for the safe use of kayak and canoe pontoons across Redlands Coast by including them in the schedule of regulated facilities.

These amendments fall under the provisions of Local Law No. 4 (Local Government Controlled Areas, Facilities and Roads) 2015 and Subordinate Local Law No. 4 (Local Government Controlled Areas, Facilities and Roads) 2015.

The purpose of the Local Law and Subordinate Local Law is to protect the health and safety of persons using Local Government controlled land, facilities, infrastructure and roads and to preserve the features of the natural and built environments in these areas.

The changes to Subordinate Local Law No. 4 (Local Government Controlled Areas, Facilities and Roads) 2015 provide Council with the ability to regulate and enforce the use of canoe/kayak launching pontoons by outlining activities that are either prohibited or restricted on the pontoons.

Prohibited activities include diving or jumping, fishing, and mooring a ship, and restricted activities include operating a system of public address or sound amplification.
