Petition Request:
Clarify who is responsible for opening the 'No Standing' signs and placing witches’ hats along one side of Topatig Street, Cleveland during an event in the showgrounds, to enable residents to exit their driveways and drive up and down the street safely.
Petition Outcome:
This petition was tabled by Cr Peter Mitchell, Division 2 Councillor, at Council’s General Meeting on 22 January 2025, on your behalf, where you were seeking clarification on the responsibility for deploying ‘No Standing’ signage and witches’ hats along one side of Topatig Street, Cleveland during events at the Redland Showgrounds.
As discussed in our phone call, I shared that Council has been developing an updated process for Mayor Events within the Showgrounds and specifically that this new procedure will require the placement of signage and witches’ hats, as a condition of the Traffic Management Permit issued for relevant events. Under this arrangement, the event organiser, not Council, will be responsible for implementing traffic control measures, including unlocking the signs and placing the witches’ hats.
As Redland City continues to grow, the Redland Showgrounds remains an important community facility that supports a diverse calendar of sporting, cultural, recreational, and civic events. Council’s Community Events team responsibility is to support event organisers to help deliver safe and successful events.
Thank you again for raising this matter. We trust the information provided clarifies the current arrangements regarding traffic management responsibilities for events held at the Showgrounds.
