Extension of existing path at Redland Centre for Women Cottage - Paper Petition 27 Signatures

Principal Petitioner: Mary Monks

Closing Date: 4.30pm, Tuesday 4 November 2025

At 10 signatures, this petition will be considered properly made.

Petition Request:

Request that the relevant authorities extend the existing path in front of the Redland Centre for Women Cottage so that it reaches the gutter and that a ramp be included to provide safe and easy access to the road.

This improvement will:

  • Enhance accessibility for all visitors
  • Improve safety by reducing trip hazards, and
  • provide a smoother transition from the path to the roadway

We want to avoid another serious accident like the once which occurred recently where a member ended up in hospital with concussion.  Support the Centre's ongoing work to provide an inclusive and welcoming environment.  We urge the responsible decision makers to prioritise this request for the benefit of all community members.

Petition Response:

Thank you for your petition for the installation of a kerb ramp at the Redlands Centre for Women. We appreciate the opportunity to meet with you and discuss your accessibility needs. Following our conversation, I am pleased to confirm the following commitments:

Kerb Ramp Installation: A kerb ramp will be installed on the northern side of the site, positioned towards the driveway to provide safe and convenient access.

Loading Zone Provision: A hatched 20-minute loading zone will be established directly in front of the ramp to facilitate easy drop-off and pick-up for visitors and deliveries.

In addition to these improvements, we have included the full Linear Park pathway renewal in the upcoming capital works program. This renewal will incorporate additional works to enhance connectivity between the rear buildings and ensure seamless access throughout the precinct. These upgrades aim to improve both functionality and user experience for all visitors.

Please note that while these plans have been scheduled for design in 2026/27 and construction in 2027/28 financial year, the delivery of the project is subject to final budget approval and the council-wide prioritisation process. We will keep you informed of any updates as the project progresses.

Your input has been invaluable in shaping these improvements, and we look forward to working together to deliver a more accessible and connected environment. Should you have any further questions or require additional information, please do not hesitate to contact us at rcc@redland.qld.gov.au or call (07) 3829 8999.

Thank you once again for your collaboration and commitment to improving community accessibility.
