While the design and construction of a hall on Karragarra Island is not currently funded, Council continues to advocate for more resilient infrastructure in the Southern Moreton Bay Islands (SMBI).
Council is committed to improving community infrastructure in the SMBI. A new Youth and Community Centre is in the design stage to be located at Macleay Island which is planned to have resilience features and construction of this facility is expected in 2026/27.
SMBI residents can take advantage of free inter-island travel to access the Community Halls on Macleay Island and Russell Island for larger events such as AGMs and special interest groups.
Additionally, the Redland Bay Community Hall is a bookable hall and is a 20-minute ferry trip and a short walk from the terminal in Redland Bay. These Council halls are well appointed with kitchens, chairs and tables and PA systems to facilitate larger community events.
These halls may be booked using Council's online booking platform and community organisations are eligible for a 50% discount.
To assist in budgeting for special events such as Christmas parties a community grant may be available from Council.
