Request to Install a Footpath on Serpentine Creek Road Redland Bay - Paper Petition 10 Signatures

Principal Petitioner: Kieran Dermody

Closing Date: 13 February 2024

At 10 signatures, this petition will be considered properly made.

Petition Request:

Install a footpath between Christopher Street bus stop and the roundabout at Donald Road and Torquay Road East.

This route is being used by persons walking to the local shops/daycare and by school kids utilising the bus stops.

There is currently no safe path of travel due to uneven ground, steep slopes and falling branches/tree roots.

I have witnessed several children and parents with prams trying to navigate this route.

I believe it's only a matter of time before there is a serious accident.

Petition Response:

Thank you for your petition for the installation of a footpath on Serpentine Creek Road Redland Bay.

Your petition was tabled by Councillor Talty at Councils general meeting on 21 February 2024 (Resolution 2024/21). Defined as operational in nature, the petition was referred to officers to respond on behalf of Redland City Council’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Andrew Chesterman. As the Principal Petitioner, Council provides this response to you.

Council recognised several years ago that a dedicated footpath on Serpentine Creek Road from Christopher Street to Donald Road is needed for the community.

Concept drawings to upgrade the entire road corridor including a 2.5m wide pedestrian footpath have been completed. Proposed works include, road widening, kerb and channel, bus stop construction, stormwater culverts and footpath for the full length. This road corridor upgrade is not expected to commence for a further 6-10 years.

Council has examined the project and believes that the concrete footpath component of the project between Donald Road and the bus stop opposite Christopher Street can be brought forward to be designed next financial year subject to budget approval. In the mean time Council will put some mitigations in place to improve the safety and experience for pedestrians in this location such as signage and vegetation clearing.

Council would like to thank you for raising this issue and taking an interest in making the city better.

Please note that this response has been sent to you as the head petitioner, and it is your discretion to notify other persons listed on the petition of the outcome.
