Petition Response:
Redland City Council acknowledges receipt of your Petition Division 10 – Request Council to withdraw support for the Birkdale Olympic Whitewater Centre and prioritise a new public swimming pool, which was tabled by Division 10 Councillor Paul Bishop as Item 7.2 in the Petitions and Presentations section of the General Meeting held on Wednesday 12 November 2025.
Council resolved as follows: That the Petition is of an operational nature and be received and referred to the Chief Executive officer for consideration.

The Chief Executive Officer has requested that I respond to you on this matter, and I can confirm the following.
Council is a Minor Venue Partner for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The new Redland Whitewater Centre – earmarked to host the Canoe Slalom events at the Games – will be an integral part of the Birkdale Community Precinct, Redlands Coast’s master-planned premium parkland.
The Redland Whitewater Centre will be jointly funded by the Australian Government and Queensland Government.
The Redland Whitewater Centre is being planned and delivered by the Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority.
Designed for all ages and abilities, the Redland Whitewater Centre will offer activities like tubing on calm waters, learning water safety, beginner paddling, and even tackling rapids for canoeing, kayaking, and rafting.
This year-round venue will be a great spot for families, emergency services, and athletes. It is earmarked to host the Canoe Slalom events for the Games.
In relation to a new 50-metre pool, Council recognises the importance of the existing aquatic facilities at the Cleveland Aquatic Centre and the value these facilities provide to the local community. Officers are currently considering options for the site as part of the broader planning work being undertaken for sport and recreation infrastructure across Redlands Coast.
As Principal Petitioner, it is your responsibility to share the outcome with other signatories.
Thank you for your submission and your ongoing interest in the Redland Whitewater Centre.
