Petition Request:
1. It is recommended that Cypress Pine be declared exempt to the owners of private land from the provisions of the Redlands City Protection Overlay to enable clearing of Cypress Pine should they want, anywhere within their own lands for both obvious and serious potential health reasons.
2. It is recommended that Cypress Pine be declared exempt to the owners of private lands from the provisions of the Redland City Council Protection Overlay, to enable clearing of Cypress Pine, should they want, anywhere within their own lands for serious fire hazard exclusion, allied to and in consideration of the text, dimensions and directions recommended in Appendix Flame 2.
3. It is recommended that Council consider removal, or adequate trimming, of Cypress Tree within their own lands of control, that overhang or adjoin private property, more especially as they relate, apart from health to the distancing and fire safety provisions mentioned in Appendix Flame 2.
4. It is recommended that Council make deputation, of behalf of residents and visitors, to the State Government to approach a suitable University, appropriate Institution, or state Health Department, to undertake certified studies into the vulnerability of Stradbroke Island Residents (particularly Amity) of its dominant species of Cypress Pine to:
(a) Human health, both upper and lower airways;
(b) Fire risk and appropriate management.
5. It is not recommended that Council request medical certification from residents as to such allergens affecting their daily lives in order to establish exemption, as such extra time and cost to ratepayers is an added burden on todays already onerous cost of living and that Doctors, without personal costly individual Cypress/patient research themselves of the medical causation of inflammation of the upper airways, may be loath the express same as causation. Residents’ word, along with information presented in the attached appendices, in the interest of health and safety, should be acceptable and of such concern enough, as to prompt urgent Council consideration of recommendations 1 to 4.
