Petition Request:
We, the Thornlands residents, respectfully request Redland City Council to address the ongoing issues caused by the current location of the skate park in our community.
Due to its placement and lack of proper monitoring, the skate park has become a frequent hotspot for vandalism and antisocial behaviour. This has resulted in repeated damage to the nearby cricket ground, children’s playground, council toilets, neighbouring houses, and surrounding public and private properties. These incidents have caused distress to local families, financial burden to property owners, and have negatively impacted the safety and wellbeing of our community.
We believe that these problems are not caused by the skate park itself, but by the lack of appropriate safety measures and poor visibility of the area. If the Council is unable to install essential security features such as CCTV cameras, adequate flood lighting, and regular monitoring, then we strongly request that the skate park be relocated to a more suitable and visible location where it can be safely used and properly supervised.
Our intention is not to remove recreational opportunities for young people, but to ensure that public facilities are placed responsibly and maintained in a way that benefits the whole community. A safer and more visible location will help reduce vandalism, discourage antisocial behaviour, and protect nearby homes and public spaces. We kindly urge Redland City Council to investigate this matter and take prompt action for the safety, security, and harmony of our neighbourhood.
Sincerely, Concerned Residents of Thornlands
