On the 4 April, 2025, the Queensland Government formally Gazetted the 900 hectare area of the Southern Thornlands as a Priority Development Area. 

Future development of the area for up to 8,000 homes and 20,000 new residents will now be managed by Economic Development Queensland, (EDQ).

This webpage has been established to inform the community about Council’s preferred future land use intents for the Southern Thornlands Potential Future Growth Area (STPFGA).

Under the South East Queensland Regional Plan (ShapingSEQ), Council is required to investigate this area to determine its appropriate use, including its potential as a future employment area.

    Council has completed its investigation of the Southern Thornlands Potential Future Growth Area (STPFGA).

    The investigation involved numerous studies, including the work of independent consultants.

    Future needs, and the unique values and constraints of each area were considered in identifying six proposed land uses.
