What are the next steps?

    The next steps involve the development of a detailed project plan for the site by Stradbroke Early Learning Centre to be submitted for assessment and final approval by Council for works to commence.

    What is the purpose of the proposed nature play and cultural garden?

    The primary purpose of the proposed nature play area is to serve as a natural space for Stradbroke Early Learning Centre to access for the enhancement of the physical, social and cognitive development of the children, as well as to provide an appropriate space for learning about the environment and local culture.

    A secondary purpose includes welcoming community groups and members into the space, where friendships can be built and health and wellbeing promoted through nature play and cultural gardening.

    Gardens and nature play areas are a therapeutic place for recovery from mental fatigue. Nature and gardening improves outlook and life satisfaction, it helps us cope with and recover from stress, improves our ability to recover from illness and injury, restores concentration, and improves productivity.

    How will the project improve environmental outcomes for the site?

    The project aims to improve the environmental values of the site through the planting of native species and the removal of invasive weed species.

    Will the proposed community garden be available to everyone?

    The nature play area and cultural garden will be fenced and accessible via the Stradbroke Early Learning Centre during centre hours, for children of the centre to enjoy.  Public participation will be welcomed through planned programs with community including on weekends.

    The Stradbroke Early Learning Centre, is a not-for-profit community-run centre providing care and education for pre-school aged children of North Stradbroke Island. The centre is interested in further community collaboration as part of the proposed nature play and cultural garden.

    Who is eligible to enter a submission?

    All park users and members of the community are eligible and encouraged to lodge a submission in response to the proposed use. Consultation opens on Saturday August 8, 2020 and closes on Sunday August 30, 2020Have your say now.

    Who will see my submission?

    Council will receive and assess the submissions lodged in response to the proposed community garden. Submissions will not be available for public viewing.
