This is your chance to help us develop the Redlands Coast Smart and Connected City Strategy!
Redland City Council has identified the opportunity to develop a smart and connected city strategy to help improve the liveability, prosperity and sustainability of Redlands Coast.
Smart solutions can include new technology or new ways of applying existing technology. They can also include new ways of doing things or working together and encourage new ways of thinking. Examples include the use of remote sensing technology for monitoring assets or informing the community, using recycled products in road surfaces and partnering with communities in environmental management.
By embracing new partnerships, policy, infrastructure and digital technology, Council will be able to adapt, innovate and improve how we respond to changes and challenges. This is especially important for our island communities, where innovative solutions could be explored to help address future infrastructure needs.
We want your input! Tell us what you think is important to:
- drive innovation in Council’s service delivery through policy, partnerships, infrastructure investment and technology
- build on the city’s capabilities and opportunities
- attract new businesses and investment to deliver real solutions to local issues.
Looking at Redlands Coast through a smart city lens
By becoming a smart city, Redlands Coast could consider a variety of ways to:
- make decisions based on real time data
- increase community-centric engagement, using intuitive website methods, mobile applications, self-service portals and convenient online accounts
- use technology to enhance community access to information like land use data or storm or fire risks
- use active monitoring and real time information to reduce our environmental footprint
- deliver better transportation through real-time public transport applications, intelligent traffic signals, autonomous vehicles and smart parking management
- create local jobs through new innovative business opportunities
- save money by reducing waste through actively monitoring water and energy use
- create community-centric business opportunities that recognise and support local advantages.
Join the conversation to shape the smart city agenda for Redlands Coast.
Have your say before consultation closes on 22 November 2019.

A app thats lets people identify native marine animals around the redlands coast, they can use the app/facebook page to tag a marine animal with a location and photo if possible and a quantity plus time and date, this data can help redlanders notice the amount of marine wildlife around and there location and the amount of marine animals we have in the redlands, plus a couple other ideals i have can be added.....people just dont realise how much marine animals we have here...

pedestrian crossings are very dark around the redlands,we have an opportunity to be very innovate here, sensor pedestrian crossing led lighting, bascally when somebody walks up to the crossing the led lights light up on each end of the white crossing markers...kind of like a run way at the airport, not super bright, but enough light so vehicles can notice the pedestrian crossing,,they can flash if needed....these lights can be feed from a solar panel and inclosed battery if needed for off grid power,.these can operate with a p.e cell...for night time operation...see image for just an example..
