2027 Vision. Redlands Coast has resilient and inclusive communities where residents of all ages and abilities are safe, connected and supported.

The Redlands Coast Stronger Communities Strategy 2024 – 2027 sets out a strategic framework for planning and delivery of approaches and initiatives to ensure that we continue to strengthen the social fabric of our city, to safeguard Redlands Coast as a city with a naturally wonderful lifestyle, connected communities and a city that is ready to embrace opportunities.

Supporting the 2027 vision are strategic themes, which are aligned with community aspirations identified through community consultation and engagement. These themes are important for defining how Council, service partners, and the community will work together to build stronger communities over the next 4 years. Strategic themes include people; place; partnerships; and participation.

Development and implementation of the Stronger Communities Strategy is incorporated into Council’s A Corporate Plan to 2026 and Beyond, as a key initiative of Corporate Goal 2: Strong Communities. Implementation of this strategy will help ensure Redland City has services and social infrastructure to support the health and well-being of people of all ages and abilities.

Council is committed to delivering a Stronger Communities Strategy that addresses the four principles of sustainability, known as the ‘quadruple bottom line’: Social | Economic | Governance | Environment. The Redlands Coast Stronger Communities Strategy 2024- 2027 will be implemented through the annual service and asset management planning process, the annual operational plan and the annual budget.

Council provides a wide variety of services to support the management and governance of our community. Council’s role in providing these services will be varied and influenced by needs, demand, costs, legislation and community expectations. Other stakeholders, including state and federal government agencies, business partners and community groups also have a responsibility to contribute towards achieving successful outcomes.

Strategic themes

The Redlands Coast Stronger Communities Strategy establishes four strategic themes that directly support the Stronger Communities vision.

People

People of all ages, abilities, cultures and socio-economic status are welcomed. Our strong and vibrant community spirit is nurtured by welcoming communities that respect culture and heritage, support each other in times of need, and care for residents of all ages, cultures and abilities.

Places

The unique character and liveability of Redlands Coast is preserved and bettered through placemaking, planning and management of community assets. Our neighbourhoods are vibrant and liveable and reflect local character.

Partnerships

Working together, we forge strong and enduring partnerships and relationships to achieve great outcomes for Redlands Coast. A strong sense of collective purpose drives individuals, groups and agencies to work together, sharing knowledge and resources.

Participation

Redlands Coast residents actively participate in a range of meaningful social and civic activities to enhance wellbeing, build trust and influence local policy and priorities. Participation in communities is essential to strengthening our local values and lifestyle that are highly regarded by residents and visitors.

Community is something that emerges as a felt experience or a social phenomenon, when people create it together; when they are in a relationship with one another, drawn together by shared concern and make commitments to act together [40 Critical Thinkers in Community Development]

Council has conducted a series of engagement activities with key community groups and key service stakeholders designed to explore community sentiment around the present and potential future state of our communities. Council thanks all those who made time to participate. The insights gained from these engagement activities were used in the development of the draft strategy outlined on these pages.

In addition, Council has separately acknowledged the strong community feedback for support measures for our Redlands Coast young people. Approximately 24,500 young people live on Redlands Coast, representing 15.5% of the Redland City population. Our young people are the future both locally and globally, in a world that is changing rapidly.

When a young person seeks support and guidance on their journey, it is vital that our community is prepared and equipped to provide it. For these important reasons, Council has also worked with key community groups and stakeholders over the past months to develop a separate but linked draft Young People's Action Plan. This action plan sets out how the Council will deliver, partner, educate, advocate and facilitate with our partners, community and beyond, to build on the strong foundations already established to see our young people succeed.

All residents, businesses and those who work in the city are now encouraged to explore both the Draft Stronger Communities Strategy and Draft Young People's Action Plan and provide your valued feedback during the consultation period from 15 November to 5 December 2023.

“Also open for comment is the Redlands Coast Young People’s Action Plan 2024-2027, that is focussed on building safe, strong and connected communities that cater for the needs of our young people.

“There are approximately 24,500 people aged between 12 and 24 living on Redlands Coast, representing 15.5 percent of our city’s population.
