Council is pleased to announce the Weinam Creek Car-Share Scheme. This follows on from the successful Redland Bay Marina Car-Share Trial.

Car-share is identified in the Redlands Coast Transport Strategy as having the potential to reduce demand for parking and private vehicle ownership, and increase the turnover and effective supply of parking.

Council conducted the car-share trial near the Redland Bay Marina between August 2020 and April 2021.

The trial allocated four parking spots close by the ferry terminal for the exclusive use of car-share trial participants.

During the trial Council sought feedback from car-share users and the community.

On 21 April 2021, Council resolved to support an Expression of Interest and subsequent tender process for a Weinam Creek Car-Share Scheme at Redland Bay Marina. This process allowed Council to select a suitable car-share operator to run the scheme.

On 20 September 2021, Council announced Bay Islands Car Share as the preferred operator.

Bay Islands Car Share is scheduled to start the two-year scheme on Monday 4 October 2021, utilising eight spaces located in close proximity to the ferry terminal. A lease agreement allows Bay Islands Car Share to conduct their car-share business within the eight spaces subject to conditions, such as ensuring exclusive use of the spaces by installing automatic parking bollards.

Weinam Creek Car-Share Scheme will offer island residents who only infrequently need a mainland car, access to a conveniently parked mainland vehicle, without the overheads of owning one.
